OneOcean

Long-Term Ruby On Rails Web Development Support

OneOcean is a global leader in maritime operational software, providing voyage planning, environmental compliance and navigation solutions to the shipping industry. As the company expanded its digital portfolio, OneOcean acquired Shipping Guides Ltd in 2021, bringing the industry-standard Guide to Port Entry and its online counterpart, Findaport.com, into its offering.

By that time, Averma had already been the digital partner behind Findaport.com for over 15 years; and we remained the team responsible for its technical and creative evolution throughout the transition.

Supporting a Strategic Acquisition

When OneOcean integrated Shipping Guides Ltd into its wider suite of maritime solutions, the Findaport.com platform became a key asset; offering subscribers real-time access to detailed port information, globally. At the time of the acquisition, Findaport.com had already become one of the most relied-upon resources in the maritime space, with a large subscriber base and daily operational usage by thousands of maritime professionals.

Our job was to make sure nothing broke, stalled or underperformed during the change in ownership. As the original development team, we already had deep knowledge of the platform’s architecture, business logic and commercial model. That meant OneOcean could continue forward with confidence, knowing their new asset was in safe hands.

Technical Ownership That Lasts

Originally developed by Averma in 2004 for Shipping Guides (then based in Reigate, Surrey), the Findaport.com system is a fully bespoke web application built on Ruby on Rails. Over the years we’ve handled every aspect of its evolution; from subscription models and paywalls, to back-end architecture, admin workflows, UX design and interface updates. During the OneOcean ownership period, we continued to provide:

  • Ongoing development and enhancements
  • Infrastructure and performance upgrades
  • Security patches and technical support
  • Visual design improvements
  • SEO and usability updates

Working Seamlessly Across Teams

Our ability to work with new owners, shifting priorities and different internal teams was a key part of what made the OneOcean phase of the project a success. We worked directly with OneOcean’s internal stakeholders to ensure updates continued without interruption, with full continuity across systems, content and design.

We were also able to adapt the platform to sit more neatly alongside OneOcean’s broader digital product suite, aligning UX elements and supporting integrations as needed; without compromising the integrity of the original product.

Still Evolving Under Lloyd’s Register

In 2022, Lloyd’s Register acquired OneOcean, further expanding their portfolio of digital maritime solutions. Once again, the Findaport.com platform transitioned into new ownership; and once again, Averma remained the trusted development partner behind it.

Today, we continue to support the platform’s evolution and maintenance; proving that well-built digital systems can last, and that long-term collaboration brings consistent value.

Built to Last, Designed to Adapt

Across ownership changes, market shifts and internal restructuring, our role has remained consistent: to make sure Findaport.com works, improves and performs.

The OneOcean phase was a key chapter in that journey. It reinforced the value of digital continuity, the importance of platform stability, and the benefit of having a long-term partner who understands both the technical and commercial demands of a complex, industry-facing system.

At Averma, we’ve supported clients with website development, branding and digital marketing strategy for over 20 years. With our main hub in Horley, Surrey, and locations in Peckham and Hampstead, London, we continue to collaborate with companies across sectors.

If you’re managing digital assets through change or growth, and need a steady hand to carry your platform forward, we’d be happy to talk.
