Website Design Considerations - Colours In Culture
Aug 23, 2010 - Taking culture meanings of colours as part of the website design process
It has to be part of a website designer's ability to be able to process beyond personal preferences of colours; colour is a very subjective entity, how your target audience respond to a particular colour is not easily measured and may be very different between individuals even within a narrow demographic group of a single market. However, there is still a lot of commonality with regards to the emotional responses within our cultural group around the world.
David McCandless has illustrated this brilliantly in his Colours In Culture chart, mapping out the cultural meanings of different colours. You can view more information on his website here. David is an award winning author based in London and his work has appeared in over 40 publications worldwide including Wired and The Guardian. His new book Information Is Beautiful explores the potential of data visualisation.
